Engine

Perkins 4107 48hp 4 cylinder diesel engine (serial no. 107U3538), freshwater cooled, 3 bladed fixed prop. Engine was completely rebuilt & repainted in 1998 – cylinder liners and exhaust system replaced, alternator uprated, stern gland replaced. 

Regularly serviced.  The engine looks good, starts easily and runs perfectly and reliably.

New thermostat fitted 2006.

2011 new solenoid fitted, starter motor overhauled (rebushed, commutator skimmed, new brushes). Injectors removed and professionally cleaned and checked then replaced using new studs and nuts, low pressure lift pump serviced using Perkinsc service kit (new diaphragm & new valves etc).

March 2012 new engine mounts fitted and wax-oiled.

May 2012 new starter motor, solenoid, main battery switches and wiring fitted.

August 2012 new fresh water pump and new salt water pump fitted.

2013 new flexible stainless steel exhaust fitted between exhaust manifold and siphon breaker (up under port side deck).  Whole lagged with heatproof fabric and held onwith s/s ties.

June 2014 – following salt water leak on heat exchanger, unit removed from engine and stripped down, new ‘main body’ purchased and fitted with new O rings.  The heat exchanger is (still) made by Bowman & Co and spares are available in the UK from Lancing Marine (01273 410025).  Serial Number of original heat exchanger 2486717 date Dec 1971.

May 2015  diesel pipe (primary filter to lift pump) replaced with fireproof rubber pipe. Other diesel pipes(secondary filter to HP pump) removed, grit blasted & pressure tested.  Found to be in good condition, repainted and replaced.  New oil pipe (engine to oil pressure gauge) replaced.  Thermostat housing removed and new studs & nuts supplied before replacement. 

May 2017 old exhaust system removed completely and new Vetus system fitted.

Gearbox

Gearbox is a Thamesway Marine Products 12000 with reduction box.  A new screw-on oil filter body was purchased 2008 as original paper filters are no longer available. 

April 2010 – gearbox removed from boat and serviced/rebuilt by TMP.

Steering

Varnished wooden wheel in wheelhouse.  Wheelhouse has removeable GRP roof, fabric and clear pvc sides.  The steering mechanism by Mathway and/or Forman consists of a series of very heavy duty steel tubes and universal couplings.  All couplings regularly greased.  Winter 2010/11, final coupling in lazarette wired brushed and coated with 3 coats zinc paint. A bronze cap in the after deck can be removed to allow use of the emergency tiller.   January 2012, final steering gearbox removed from boat & found to be by Forman (now ceased trading) rather than Mathway.  New bearings and double lipped oil seals put in before a repaint and replacement in boat.

Fuel

38 gallon stainless steel tank + 25 Gallon GRP wing tank ie 63 gallons total

Fuel consumption is about ½ gallon per hour.  Fuel cut off valve operated from main saloon (fitted 2005).  Main stainless steel tank opened and cleaned at end of 2011 season

Water

75 gallon GRP tank (in keel) – new flexible liner fitted 2004 

25 gallon GRP wing tank – new flexible liner fitted 2007.  A lever valve allows water to flow from this tank to the main tank when required.  New domestic fresh water pump (jabsco par-max 2.9) fitted Aug 2015 

Refrigerator

Upright fridge built into port side of saloon.  New compressor and evaporator (Waeco CU55 &VD07) fitted Aug 2015

Bilge pumps:

There is a Jabsco Water Puppy 2000 electric bilge pump (fitted new 2005) activated either by a manual switch or automatic float switch (fitted Feb 2013, replaced 2021). Manual Whale Mk 5 Universal pump (also fitted new 2005) with through-bulkhead operation from cockpit.

Lights

Masthead tricolour, anchor light (now no longer in use as LED lantern is much more reliable), deck level port and starboard lights on pulpit, sternlight on pushpit (new 2004),steaming light & deck light.  Deck light unreliable so removed 2011 (useof LED head torches is better) 

Gas System

New iroco deck-mounted gas locker, pipework, gas alarm, bubble tester, stop cocksand pipework professionally (‘CORGI’) fitted 2004.  Flexible gas pipe in locker renewed 2006. New Nasa gas detector (2008). Gas system checked by Corgi engineer Oct 200& certificate issued. New rubber gas pipes fitted in gas locker and to cooker may 2017.

Fire Extinguishers etc

4Kg dry powder.  Rating 21A 113B C.  Locker in after cabin. New 2007

Heating

Eberspacher diesel fired.  3 outlets.  Unit overhauled and new pump fitted 2004. In

2009 a separate diesel tank (actually a 20L jerry can appropriately adapted) was fitted in the lazarette for this heater on the advice of an engineer.  This enables the use of road diesel which was also advised by the engineer as it is cleaner.  Also the tank can be easily removed for cleaning. The power supply to the heater was replaced in 2006 – new wiring, isolator switch & 30 amp midi fuse.  2007 unit completely overhauled – general service and new heat exchanger fitted (£550 spent). 2009 another overhaul and temp sensor replaced.  New exhaust pipe  fitted (£200) also 2009.  Unit serviced ashore 2011 and new inlet pipe supplied.  Original Eberspacher finally gave up the ghost in May 2017.  It was replaced with a workshop refurbished replacement (supplied by Excalibur Auto Electrics (Norwich)) in Sept 2017.  Also part of the ducting from the heater to the after cabin was replaced with new.

Fridge

Hot Water

New Isotemp 25L engine heated calorifier fitted in 2004.  The calorifier also has a 750w immersion heater for use with shorepower.  New thermostat 2009. New safety and drain down valve 2011

Music

Panasonic FM radio/CD player with 4 speakers (two in saloon, two waterproof ones incockpit). The radio and 2 waterproof speakers new 2004.  New speakers fitted in saloon May 2016

MOB Equipment etc

2 horseshoe buoys mounted on pushpit with drogues and floating lights.  Horseshoe buoys have boat’s name and reflective strips.  Danbuoy(refurbished 2009) also mounted on pushpit and attached by line to one of the horseshoe buoys.  4:1 tackle for MOB recovery which attaches to a halyard.  2 boarding ladders (one attaches beside the guardwire gates to port and starboard, the other can be used anywhere hooked over the toerail. Anchor ball and motoringcone.  Tool to remove cover over emergency steering point.  Emergency tiller.
